Adrian Branch Wins Region 1: 3-point Contest
Day #01 had close to 30 participants as several members were excited about entering a 3-point contest.
“I always wanted to be a part of a 3-point contest,” posted Adrian Blanch, on Instagram.
The 3-point contest attracted a lot of players – point guards, shooting guards, forwards and centers. The game has evolved thanks to revolutionary shooting guard, Warriors’ Steph Curry and the go-to shot these days are 3-pointers. What was impressive about LA Fitness, Glendale, was the camaraderie between gym members and Event Director Luis Miranda , quickly noticed. Shadon Knight also pointed out that Glendale LA Fitness had a different vibe, unlike any other gym he went to.
“They were supportive of each other, cheered each other on, and gave advice to other 3-point shooters,” said impressed staff member, Shadon Knight. “You won’t see that at any other gym.
Mauie Dizon started the contest with a barrage of 3-pointers, ending his total with 16 three-pointers. Four competitors later and Adrian Branch topped all shooters with 19 three-pointers. Another 5 competitors tried to to surpass Adrian atop the leaderboard and it wasn’t until Aram Ambarsung topped all players with a total of 20 points for the 1st Round.
Mauie was holding on for the final slot with a 5th place total of 16 and the last call for the 1st Round was announced. Five minutes passed and two players registered just in time as “Juju” Julienne Almario and Adrian Jimenez registered closed out the 1st Round. Adrian finished with 20 three-pointers, knocking off Mauie who was waiting for over an hour to see if he would finish Top 5.
“These two came in and hustled everyone, no one knew they were going to shoot this good but damn, they made a big impression!” added Shadon Knight.
The top 5 Semi-finalists were Brandon Batres (17), Paul Marshall (18), Adrian Branch (19), Aram Ambarsung (20) and Adrian Jimenez (20). The first 2 shooters (order of bottom to top) came out firing as Brandon connected for 17 three’s and Adrian Branch led all shooters improving his tally to 20.
Brandon Batres, holding off on going to class to finish the 3-point Contest, felt rushed in his shot and finished with a total of 12. Adrian, poised and ready to put the icing on the cake, was relaxed in the Final Round, knowing he only needed 12 to tie Brandon. Adrian needed only 20 shots to secure his spot as Regional Champion (Region 1) as Adrian Branch advanced to the Battle of the Champions, held at the Pasadena Convention Center on Sunday, August 12.
Brandon will be facing off 7 other Regional Winners as he begins his journey as World of Sports & Fitness 3-point Shooter Champion.
